1. The Objective of X01
In any X01 game (most commonly 501 or 301), each participant starts with the specified number of points and counts down to exactly zero. Every turn consists of up to three darts thrown from behind the oche (7 feet 9 ¼ inches or 2.37 meters).
2. In and Out Options
- Straight In / Straight Out: Points count immediately on any valid board segment; any score reaching zero wins.
- Double Out (Standard): The decisive final dart must land in a double ring segment (or the 50-point Inner Bullseye) to reduce the score to exactly zero.
- Double In: Players cannot score any points until they hit a double ring segment first.
- Master Out: The leg can be finished with a double, triple, or bullseye.
3. The Bust Rule
If a player scores more points than remaining, reduces the score to 1 in a Double Out game, or hits zero without a valid double, a "Bust" occurs. The player's turn ends immediately and the score resets to what it was at the beginning of that turn.
4. Legs, Sets & Match Structure
A leg is a single game from the starting points down to zero. Matches can be structured as "Best of N Legs" (e.g. Best of 5 Legs = first to 3 wins) or structured into sets, where winning a set requires winning a predetermined number of legs (e.g., first to 3 sets, best of 5 legs per set).
5. High Checkouts & Combination Tables
The highest possible checkout in 501 darts is 170 (Triple 20, Triple 20, Inner Bullseye). Key checkouts include:
| Remaining Score | Dart 1 | Dart 2 | Dart 3 (Finish) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 170 | T20 (60) | T20 (60) | Bull (50) |
